In accordance with its mission to support high level research in Belgium, the University Foundation provides financial support to partially cover the costs of the publication of scientific books which report on research in Belgian research groups.
Because the possible support is restricted to Belgian research groups, the regulations and application procedures are only available in French and in Dutch.

How do the social, material, and spatial processes underlying the making of early modern missionary grammars, vocabularies, and devotional translations deepen our understanding of their contents? The handwritten and printed missionary books produced in the Spanish viceroyalties of New Spain and Peru were key instruments designed to help study Indigenous languages in order to efficiently teach religious doctrine to local communities unfamiliar with European culture and religion.
This book examines the legitimization of the European Union through the development and rapid rotation of narratives aiming to convey its identity and purpose. Utilizing literature and data across a wide range of interdisciplinary areas rarely studied together, the book argues that three narratives have been dominant over the last 20 years: ‘Europe of rights’, ‘Europe of values’ and a ‘European way of life’.
Het boek ‘Vrijheid in de middeleeuwse stad’ gaat over het prille ontstaan van burgerschap in de Vlaamse steden van de twaalfde en dertiende eeuw. Het schetst een herkenbaar verhaal over toenemende migratie, sociale polarisatie en het afschermen van verworven rechten. Het boek buigt zich over een waaier aan grote en kleine steden van het graafschap Vlaanderen. Elke stad ging zo op haar eigen manier om met de sociale spanningen en maatschappelijke veranderingen in de twaalfde en dertiende eeuw. Het burgerschap was hierin een belangrijk instrument.
Urban Markets and Women’s Labor: Navigating Institutional Boundaries in Premodern Europe Women played a crucial role in medieval and early modern urban economies, yet their labor opportunities varied greatly depending on local institutions. This book compares the guild-structured labor markets of Antwerp and Mechelen in Brabant with Bilbao’s informal economy in Biscay during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. By analyzing these distinct institutional contexts, it offers a multifaceted understanding of women’s economic roles in premodern Europe.
The Middle Dutch term schaec referred to abduction with marital intent. This book explores this phenomenon to understand wider attitudes towards marriage-making in the fifteenth-century Low Countries. Whilst exchanging words of consent was all that was required legally, making marriage was a social process that evoked public concern and familial scrutiny. Abductions embodied contrasting evaluations of what mattered when selecting a spouse and resulted in polarized trials in which narratives on consent, coercion, and family strategy coincided and competed.

Il est divisé en trois parties :
La première pose les bases théoriques du concept de citoyenneté visuelle, en explorant ses dimensions personnelles, créatives et émotionnelles.
La vision traditionnelle de la questure, magistrature romaine dont les titulaires sont supposés n’avoir exercé que de basses fonctions financières et techniques, est toujours tributaire du désintérêt avec lequel les auteurs anciens en ont traité. Cette opinion fut encore renforcée par l’interprétation, à la fin du XIXe siècle, de Theodor Mommsen dans son maître ouvrage, Le Droit public romain (Römisches Staatsrecht) : jeunes gens sans envergure ni expérience, les questeurs n’auraient été que les auxiliaires d’autres magistrats, en premier lieu des consuls.
Les Masa¯’il Kha¯lid li-Marya¯nus al-ra¯hib (Questions de Kha¯lid au moine Marya¯nus) sont un dialogue alchimique, qui porte sur le grand oeuvre et la fameuse pierre des philosophes. Elles se présentent comme une série de questions et réponses entre Kha¯lid b. Yazi¯d b. Mu‘a¯wiya (m. 704), fils du deuxième calife omeyyade, et Marya¯nus, moine byzantin alchimiste. Ce texte occupe une place de choix dans l’histoire de l’alchimie. Il a été rédigé en arabe, peut-être dans la première moitié du Xe siècle.
